Abstract
Only a few months later, the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) officially came into effect with the car import tax from ASEAN countries at 0%. This is a chance for car manufacturers to expand their scale not only to meet domestic demand but also to export. However, until now, the Vietnamese automobile industry seems not ready yet. Without limiting competition to imported vehicles, ATIGA is considered an opportunity for car manufacturers and assemblers in Vietnam because of the huge export potential, There are not many factories in other countries in the region. Regrettably, this unique advantage is almost difficult because the regulations only apply to vehicles with localization ratios of over 40% while no manufacturer in Vietnam reaches this figure.
