Proper management of sanitation and hygiene behaviour is the primary concern to be healthy. Improvement in health, safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene is the priority of Nepal Government too so there are many other non-governmental organizations are also supporting to promote the health education, total sanitation and behavioral change in the school and community. Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) and School Led Total Sanitation (SLTS) are the popular sanitation approaches used in Nepal for achieving total sanitation through open defecation free (ODF) campaign. The main objective of this study is to identify the demographic perspective on effectiveness of CLTS and SLTS approaches for improving sanitation status. The study was conducted in Makawanpur district covering the 600 respondents; one household head from one selected house. Systematic random sampling technique was used to select the respondent. The study was based on quantitative design. Data was collected from structured questionnaire survey. The study found that CLTS approach was more effective than the SLTS approach for improving sanitation status. The effort of school children found less acceptable for the community people. Community people did not give more value to the knowledge and information shared by the school children whereas CLTS was led by community itself so they believed on the message disseminated by CLTS approach. So, the future program should promote CLTS approach in other regions also for promoting the total sanitation
