Abstract

Introduction: Obesity is leading cause of preventable mortality; not just a cosmetic problem. It is estimated that morbid obesity is affecting 5% of Indian Population.

Objective: To evaluate the association of BMI with Diabetes, Hypercholesterolemia, Hypertriglyceridemia and Hypothyroidism in the study subject.

Material and methods: A cross sectional study was designed. A total of 125 study subjects were taken from December 2017 to February 2018.

Results: Out of 125 total patients, 65% were males and 35% were females. We also found that majority of the patients (29.6%) were in the age group of 51-60 years. In this study a significant association of BMI was found with diabetes and hypercholesterolemia.

Conclusion: A significant association of BMI with Diabetes, hypercholesterolemia was found and all preventive health care strategies for managing obesity should be promoted to decrease the comorbidities associated with it.
