Biomass Resource: A potential energy source for green future

Keywords : Biomass energy, conversion technology, biomass resources, biodiesel production

Abstract

In Vietnam, biomass energy use has been around for a long time, but it is still small at the household level for cooking or small production. These are fuels derived from biomass materials (biomass) such as firewood, wood, straw, rice husk, dung ... but this is only a raw fuel. The use of raw biomass materials on an industrial scale is very difficult and economical due to the low calorific value of fuel (15 to 18 MJ / kg for firewood, wood and 12-15 MJ / kg for rice husk) leads to small, scattered exploitation, supply and use. Meanwhile, the biomass energy potential from vegetable oil plants such as cassava (wheat), corn, pineapple, peanuts, basa fat, molasses (from sugar cane) is processed into alcohol mixed with gasoline, sesame (sesame) oil. Palm ... in Vietnam is quite large (Khai, 2003). Biogas technology in recent years mainly developed at the family level. At the moment there is no exact statistics but according to the evaluation of the national target program on clean water and rural sanitation, about 7% of animal breeding facilities treat waste (the target is 30 %). RCEP said biomass energy differs from other types of renewable energy in two aspects. First, unlike wind and wave energy, biomass is controllable. Second, biomass at the same time provides both heat and electricity. Biomass comes in many forms: wood, forestry by-products such as sawdust, agricultural waste such as straw, manure, energy crops (sugarcane, willow). In addition, there is vegetable waste from parks, gardens, roadsides. All of these are available in the UK. The RCEP report calls on the British government to mandate current heat suppliers (oil, gas and electricity) to provide part of the heat from renewable energy sources. This provision will take effect at a specific time. In addition, it is necessary to establish a biomass forum between the government and the heat and electricity supply industry. All new development projects must be planned to build a factory to produce combined heat, electricity and biomass fuel.
