Sound business environment inevitable for businesses to operate and boost economic growth

Business is understood as the organized efforts of enterprises to supply consumers with goods and services for a profit. Businesses vary in size, as measured by the number of employees or by sales volume. Businesses do not operate in a vacuum; they operate in an environment. Thus, the business environment is a complex set of variables. The government of Nepal has introduced various policies, rules and regulations to make the business environment better starting from 1990s to date. However, investment environment even till today does not seem convincing and attractive for the entrepreneurs. In such a context, there is a need to carry out a proper assessment of factors that contributed to do business in relation to the background of political instability, lack of electricity, weak implementation of policies, labor market rigidities, access to finance, among others. All eight components included in the research are still waiting for improvement for bettering the Nepalese business environment. So, it is suggested to reform the above-mentioned components and sub-components to improve business environment, boost the productive capacity of enterprises for enhancing economic growth.
This study was conducted to determine the affecting factors in business environment in Nepal. Respondents were selected by simple random sampling from four major industrial corridors of business of the country. 400 respondents were participated and put their opinions through the set of questionnaires.
