Abstract

This essay presents the results of a pertinent research on whether videos of traditional music in Greece, posted on YouTube channel, illustrate digital narrative elements. Specifically, traditional orchestras, traditional musicians and the traditional music bodies in Greece produce in high frequency videos in which they record traditional festivals, events, dance performances, new traditional music record productions, amateur recording videos of traditional musicians and generally, various portrayals of traditional music. In order to investigate the relationship between digital storytelling and the videos posted by the above groups and bodies of traditional music, a qualitative research and a corresponding research tool (assessment grid / imprinting of the current situation) were designed. Thus, in a sample of thirteen regions in Greece, a representative sample of fifteen traditional music videos per region, was selected and assessed on a grid basis. The results were recorded for each region separately, based on specific research questions raised during the research design phase. Finally, the conclusions per region, as well as the general conclusions of the research are presented.
