The objective of this article is to determine the effect of cooperatives on improving the living conditions of agricultural women in order to identify the best strategies in terms of agricultural policies. More specifically, the article is situated in the extension of the theory of well-being.
Our results show that the membership of women in an agricultural cooperative contributes better to the improvement of their living conditions. Indeed, the econometric analysis of our article revealed that women farmers who belong to a cooperative are 2.22 times more likely to improve their living conditions than those who are not in a cooperative. In addition, female farmers in female cooperatives are more likely (3 times more likely) to improve their living conditions than those in mixed cooperatives. It is also noted in the model presented that female farmers who belong to female-led cooperatives are 20 times more likely to improve their living conditions than their counterparts belonging to male-led cooperatives. And finally, we found that members who are in family cooperatives improve their living conditions better (5.78 times more likely) than their counterparts who belong to non-family cooperatives.
