Abstract

This research explores the barriers to the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in sub-Saharan Africa and the potential for increased productivity through its implementation. Through a review of existing literature and case studies, we identify the main challenges faced by SMEs in adopting AI, including a lack of access to resources and expertise, a lack of awareness, and cultural and regulatory barriers. We also examine the potential benefits of AI for SMEs in terms of increased efficiency and competitiveness. The study concludes by recommending strategies for overcoming these barriers and promoting the adoption of AI in sub-Saharan Africa's SMEs to enhance productivity and economic growth.
