Abstract

This article aims to verify the link between access to credit and the economic performance of small and medium -sized enterprises. This connection is anchored in the credit demand theory of credit channel proponents (1970). This theory was supported by Ginglinger's work (1991). To do this, we used the vector model with error correction, which is a particular form of self -regressive models with staggered latching. The results from the estimation of this model show that access to credit has a non-significant positive effect on the economic performance of small and medium-sized enterprises. Furthermore, investment and human capital have a positive and significant impact on the economic performance of small and medium-sized enterprises. Imports, for their part, negatively influence the economic performance of SMEs.
